Episode 28 | Effortless Return to Work Style: Postpartum Fashion Tips

Ep 28 | Effortless Return to Work Style: Postpartum Fashion Tips with Sonya Choi LaRosa from Your Styled Collective

Sonya shares advice around choosing clothing when returning to work to remain stylish and comfortable.

For many women, their postpartum body shape has changed at least a little and they are often looking for more comfort.

To start with, returning to work, the style you had before may not be what you feel suits you now. For example, the really corporate pencil skirts etc may not feel like you now.

Who are you now?

Who are you and who do you want to be now? How do you want to represent yourself to the world, who is this version of me post having my baby? It’s a great opportunity to take stock and decide how you’d like to show up when you are on your own and not being Mum!

It is an identity shift, you need to feel like you, as mums we often don’t take the time to think about these questions and we are worth it. Often, we are more interested in choosing the baby’s clothes rather than our own and we matter too.

The clothes we wear have such a profound effect on us.

Once you’ve thought about what you’d like, consider turning up the dial on comfort and think about how you can create a little bit of structure while remaining more comfortable.

The concept of flow – for example a more relaxed skirt (pleated, A line) and more structured blazer. Your heel moves to a lower block help or even a nice flat that better suits the daycare pickup later.

Breastfeeding?

For those breastfeeding and possibly expressing at work. Invest in a shirt dress, great for after breastfeeding also. Look for tops with a cross-over wrap, print fabrics are good in case of any leakage and spills. A shirt or vest can also work well as a layer, singlet underneath works well too. Layers are your friend.

Check what’s in your wardrobe:

It’s important to spend some time going through your wardrobe and see what you still like, what fits well, what is your style now that it may have changed.

Also consider what you are sick of wearing throughout your pregnancy, you know the pieces that you never want to wear again – this is your permission to purge any of those items!

Shopping:

Then it’s time to buy a few new pieces that better align with your new you! No need to invest in many pieces while you ‘re still finding your style and shape. Some new pieces can really help you to feel refreshed and ready to go back to work with confidence. You can build on these over time as you see what feels right.

Embrace the new you at work!
