About Belinda
My passion is in supporting Mums to find their own path to parenthood by providing safe non-judgemental advice and options to choose from – there is no one size fits all parenting strategy, every Mum and Baby are different. As a mother to four, I know this is true!
As a midwife and maternal & child health nurse I have worked with thousands of parents and babies during childbirth education, prenatal care, labour & birth, postnatal care, special care nursery, newborn home visits, key age consultations from birth to preschool as well as parent (mothers) groups.
I decided to write a book to share the knowledge that I share with families every day, I wanted to give safe, evidence-based information as well as options to new parents. So, I am now the author of ‘Survive and Enjoy Your Baby’, it covers all the area’s most new parents are desperately seeking answers to such as crying, sleep & settling, growth, feeding, play & development, parents selfcare and return to work. This is available in all good bookstores as well as on this website.
When I first became a Mum, I found it very challenging, my baby didn’t sleep, and I didn’t know how to help her- I wasn’t enjoying my baby at all! I had dreams and expectations that when I became a Mum, I would have that stereotypical ‘Super Mum’ ability to know how to care for my baby, keep a tidy house, have home cooked meals and baking but there was no time for any of that, I was barely surviving at all.
My own child health nurse’s knowledge & support made all the difference, she taught me all about babies, how to care for them, many of the common issues and how to manage those issues such as nappy rash, common cold, teething and development. She always knew which health professionals to refer me to for further help, one of which was Day Stay where I learnt all about babies and sleep and how to help my baby sleep better. Up until this point I wasn’t sure if I would have another baby and after her support throughout the first year of being a Mum, I decided to have another baby and then went on to have 4 children! She inspired me to become a midwife and maternal & child health nurse, so I could do the same for you!
I was already a registered nurse with a Bachelor of Nursing when I decided to go on to study a Graduate Diploma of Midwifery, and then later a Masters of Nursing Science in Child, Family & Community, which was required to practice as a maternal & child health nurse. All while I was raising my four young children, it certainly was a juggle. My husband Peter and I were able to share the load of parenting, work and study. My nursing and midwifery career has continued for over 20 years, has worked with thousands, this remains my life’s work, there is nothing more important to me than this.
I enjoy sharing my knowledge with parents and am in the media regularly, I have been featured on ABC, 9 News, Essential Baby, Mums Grapevine, 3AW, 6PR, 2GB, Health Times, Kiddipedia, The Sydney Morning Herald, Baby Bunting and more. See my media page.
They say it takes a village to raise a child, I hope that I can be part of your village to support you in your parenting journey.
